My boyfriend and I needed a getaway, and Inn at Lonesome Hollow was just what the doctor ordered. As a true Wisconsinite, I can tell you that it is imperative for everyone to visit this gorgeous part of our state. Commonly known as the "Driftless Area" of Wisconsin, this region got its nickname from a lack of glacial activity many years ago. The Inn is located in the heart of the Driftless Area, surrounded by hills, trees, and all-around beautiful nature. Our room was impeccable; everything we needed was right there because Pete & Nora (the owners) had already thought of it. It was very quaint, but the small touches were awesome. For example, our room had a whirlpool with a fireplace next to it, and there were bath salts and a comfy mat to step on when we exited the tub. There was a hair dryer, and some lovely organic product samples (shampoo, body wash, etc). The furniture was all amish-made, including the quilt. One of our favorite things about the place was the Keurig, which they outfitted with all sorts of drinks (hot chocolate, tea, apple cider, and coffee of many varieties). It was located right outside of our room and we were able to use it at any time of the day. It was very nice to come home from a long hike and have a hot chocolate ready in 30 seconds. There are several things to do around the Inn, all within an hour. Even if you think you don't want to drive for an hour, the views are completely worth it. Check out their website for day trip ideas...the possibilities are endless. Amish country, Kickapoo Valley, hiking, orchards, art, wine, cheese, kayaking, canoeing, etc. This is one of the largest stretches of apple orchards in the state, and the Driftless Area would be absolutely gorgeous in autumn. We were there in January, so we enjoyed hiking in Wyalusing State Park. I highly recommend checking out their trails, whether you cross-country ski, snowshoe (the Inn has four pairs that you can use at liberty), or just plain trudge through. We experienced some beautiful views of the Mississippi River. If you're looking for other things to do, ask Pete & Nora. They are absolute experts about the area. Last, but certainly not least, the breakfast. Oh, the breakfast; they are wonderful cooks. The first morning we wolfed down a delicious wild mushroom quiche with homemade muffins. With breakfast we enjoyed a spiced pear and locally made organic apple butter. The second day included orange french toast, locally made organic breakfast sausage, and fresh fruit. We had fresh orange juice each morning with our coffee. Yum.

We stayed here on our way to Chicago from Minnesota and my only regret is that we didn't spend more time in this incredibly beautiful area. The Inn at lonesome hollow is tucked away in the hills away from it all in a valley full of wildlife and natural beauty. The owners have kept it impeccable and everything is squeaky and comfortable. Breakfast (included the the very reasonable rate) was delicious and featured local ingredients, including maple syrup from their own trees.

We enjoyed three peaceful nights at the Inn. Having a group of three we booked the second floor of the second house at the Inn. The second floor includes two bedrooms, a large family room, full kitchen and a deck. Very nice! The bathroom was large with a whirlpool for two. All of the furniture and decor was top notch. The beds are very nice Amish oak and the sheets were very high quality - smooooth. Everything was very comfortable! Outside the house we had a grill, swing, fire pit and lots of land to hike. Breakfast is not included in this suite but it was no problem making arrangements with Nora for a couple of mornings. We enjoyed talking with Pete, Nora and other guests - Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Georgia being represented this weekend. While relaxing at the Inn is no problem I would strongly recommend two side trips: 1) The Shrine to the Our Lady of Guadelupe in LaCrosse. It is a one hour drive and it is amazing! Check it out on Yelp. I put up some photos but they don't do it justice. 2). Pete and Nora had suggested two places to eat in the area. The pizza at the Country Gardens motel was darn good and the prices for pizza and the other menu items was darn reasonable. It's about 15 minutes away in Soldiers Grove. If you want 5 star food then you need to keep driving another 15 minutes to The Driftless Cafe in Viroqua. The Beef Tenderloin was Outstanding and the desserts (especially the carrot cake) were excellent too! Prices are a bit higher but well worth it for this very fresh and delicious meal! We heard from other guests that they went biking on the Sparta railroad trail and had a great time. Next time we'll bring our bikes.

We (my best friend and I - along with my two young sons), found this charming retreat on accident. We decided to road trip from Central WI to Galina, IL. We got to Dubuque, IA and started looking for hotels in 100 mile radius - EVERYTHING WAS BOOKED! So I started "Yelping" I saw this B&B had 5 stars and we know why ! It's immaculate! Gorgeous grounds, kept in perfect condition. We arrived late, and was warmly greeted by one of the owners, Pete. We all introduced ourselves and then made way to our cabin. It's a two bedroom adorable, good sized cabin. First bedroom has two twin beds, and the second bedroom has a queen bed, there is a large futon in the living room. Bathroom is good size with a stand up shower. The sweet cabin has a full size refrigerator and nice kitchen. It's very clean and well cared for. If you are in the area, don't pass this up!

We stayed with Pete and Nora for a weekend and cannot rave loudly enough about the experience. The setting was stunningly beautiful, the amenities perfectly modern balanced with Amish charm and the owners' hospitality was a true delight. Nora accommodated a gluten free diet and it was absolutely tasty!!! The coziness of the rooms and the exquisite grounds made a winter getaway romantic and memorable, even on a cold weekend. Complimentary snowshoes facilitated a spectacular hike complete with wild turkeys and deer shed. We can't wait to return and already we are telling everyone we know how awesome the Inn at Lonesome Hollow is!! We day tripped into Viroqua and loved the Driftless Cafe along with the charming art galleries in town. We also ventured into Prairie Du Chein, WI as well as Marquette, Iowa, and every one of Pete's (Lonesome Inn owner) recommendations for quality dining was spot on. I cannot say enough great things about our weekend at the Inn with Pete and Nora.
